Go-Ahead Singapore Loyang Bus Depot
In November 2015, Go-Ahead Group, Lon’s largest bus operator, achieved a milestone and was awarded the Loyang Contract by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore. Targeted to enter the Singapore bus market in September 2016, Go-Ahead will be operating 25 routes with approximately 900 employees and is expected to generate total revenues of around S$500m (£230m) over five years.
The newly built depot can accommodate up to 500 buses and is fully equipped with modern maintenance facilities such as automatic refuelling and washing systems, a 10-bay workshop, a ‘rolling road’ for testing brakes, and a spray painting booth. A contemporary office with extensive rooms, a canteen, as well as rest areas have been provided for the comfort of all employees, and Go-Ahead Singapore will complete the fit out with a training hub.
United Resources was proud to be working closely in the establishment of this new depot, mainly in equipping the depot with the necessary M.R.O, Safety and Spill Control products. Mr. Foo Chuan Jian, overall project engineer in-charge, shares his experience, “the depot was structurally completed but rather bare when we first came in. Extensive onsite inspections were carried out to fully understand the depot’s operations and requirements and rounds of discussion and product sharing had to be done before confirming on the products needed”.
Mr. Foo also shared that the challenging part of the project was the managing of project timeline and requirements from both client and regulations. Careful planning, coordination and supervision had to be ensured to make sure all requirements are met with mistakes kept minimal. Mr. Foo commented, “There are bound to be issues despite prior planning, but the onsite troubleshooting and management is also what makes my job fun and fulfilling.”
The project lapsed over an 8 month period and now finds the depot properly equipped with Spill Kits and Containment for fuel handling, Safety PPE for operators, Road Safety Signage and Markings for traffic safety and chemicals such as bus wash, hand cleaners and lubricants for daily MRO activities.
United Resources would continue its service to Go-Ahead Singapore as it gears up to its final stretch of operational readiness.
